My good friend Corrie collaborated with Hideki Kawashima for this masterpiece. www.corriepeters.ca My first response to this piece is that the light is like an umbilical cord connecting these people, which might be referring to the inevitable or inherent link and interdependence between people. The contrast of the dark room and bright light may represent the people that we may not remember passing by, seeing, hearing or engaging with , but have informed our memory and experiences somehow; in which case the cord might also operate as a neural pathway of memory. Also, the fact that connections like these are probably not commonly thought about makes me identify the darkness as referring to the lack of community mindedness and ignorance of this interdependence in the Western world.
Also, WOW. Janna
