The New York Series celebrates friendship and collaboration. Each one-of-a-kind weaving is based on photographs that Katherine Earle and I took in New York City together while supporting each other in our respective art practices.
Katherine and I met in 2010 in Concordia University's Fibre and Material Practices program in Montreal, Quebec and began to collaborate in 2014 while both living in the New York Metropolitan area. Our primary intention was to support each other in our respective art practices. That intention manifested in many forms including attending seminars together, documenting each other's artwork, sharing skills, and in 2018 exhibiting a joint series of woven tapestries based on photos taken during our collaboration. The above tapestries are some of my contributions to the series. I'm interested in both the evocative nature of a photograph, as well as the problematic nature of attempting to make tangible the complexity of a living moment.
