In my art practice I explore the ways in which environments can either enliven or thwart one's ability to feel fully present. My New York Series celebrates friendship and collaboration. Each one-of-a-kind weaving is based on photographs that Katherine Earle and I took in New York City together while supporting each other in our respective art practices.
About Janna MariaI am an interdisciplinary artist working primarily within the media of botanical dyeing and tapestry weaving. In 2008 I attended Capilano University’s Textile Art diploma program and in 2013 graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University’s Fibres and Material Practices program (Montreal, Quebec.)
In 2016 I returned with my family to the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, and in 2018 as my son entered kindergarten, I launched Everlea Yarn; a specialty online shop offering the naturally dyed yarns and tapestry weaving supplies that I use in my practice. In my art practice I explore the ways in which environments can either enliven or thwart one's ability to feel fully present. My work aims to create spaces, objects and ideas that express the antithesis of the phenomenon of outward judgement; introspection, growth and kindness. |
Learn to Weave TapestryI offer online and in-person workshops for beginner and beyond-beginner tapestry weavers. I recommend beginning with my workshop Introduction to Tapestry found online at my tapestry supplies website Everlea Yarn or in person in various British Columbia locations. Find upcoming in-person workshops HERE.
