Celebrating Imperfection

I found these amazing hand-woven rugs by Kea Carpet and Kilims today on Facebook.  They just took my breath away.  I love the uneven selvages, the lack of symmetry and the general sense of freedom in the design.  They really don't strive the be anything.  To me they are perfect.  I just warped up my loom to make some rugs and now that I've seen these my design ideas have been thrown right our the window. Back a square one (happily).

Their sense of both design and colour remind me of the quilts of Gee's Bend (below).  In the same way they are imperfect yet  flawless.  I am also reminded of how the Navajo purposefully create imperfections in their woven rugs, always in the corner which is where the spirit moves in and out of the rug.

Here's a quote that really speaks to letting go of expectations and embracing imperfection.  Ideas I tend to meditate on and try to live by.
