Ulukhaktok Handicraft Project
2011
The goal of the Ulukhaktok Handicraft Project was to foster an economic environment that supports growth and diversification of the arts economy in Ulukhaktok, NWT, by providing training to older workers to produce a variety of handicrafts that lead to a sustainable livelihood. I was invited by Aurora College to organize, develop the curriculum for, and teach the six-week textile portion of the fifteen-week program. I was also allotted a large budget for textile supplies, like looms, knitting machines and yarn, all of which remained there for students to access for personal and business use. The NWT government also made a large donation of Quiviut yarn which the students used with the knitting machines.
